If you have decided to groom your cat you will need to purchase some cat grooming supplies. There are many types of cat grooming products which will make your job of grooming your cat much easier. You can choose to purchase items such as brushes, wire toothed combs, finger brushes, cat toothpaste, cotton balls, cat shampoo and even nail clippers for your cat.
The most important thing to do first of all is to check your cat for any matted fur or clumps of hair. You may find this is more common in cats with long hair. You should not pull these matted bits of hair from your cat as you cut hurt it. Instead try to work the hair apart by using a comb, brush or even your fingers. If this proves unsuccessful, you will have to use a scissors to cut the hair away. Long haired cats quite often get matted clumps of hair even in areas such as between their toes, around their ears and around the legs.
To groom your cat, you should start at the head. Brush from the top of the head downwards in the direction of your cat’s fur. As you go down the head, you can then move along the body and down each of your cat’s legs. Use soft strokes so as not to hurt your cat. This procedure can be repeated a few times to improve results. It is important to keep the brush or comb free from a build up of dead hair. A lot of cats actually enjoy being groomed so it should not be a stressful time for either of you. It all depends on the likes and dislikes of your particular cat. Some other cats do not like specific areas being brushed for example some hate having their stomachs brushed and others do not like having their legs or feet brushed.
Once you have brushed your cat’s fur, you can clean his or her ears by using cleaning solution on cotton balls. You can complete the process by using a finger toothbrush to brush inside your cat’s mouth and her teeth. Your cat will then be groomed just like the professionals do and you will both be happy with the results.
